Comprising a Fender Custom Shop body finished in Shell Pink nitro lacquer and a 2006 Fender Baja neck, this Telecaster is loaded with early Twisted Tele pickups and outfitted with a Mastery M1 bridge and Bigsby B5 vibrato tailpiece complete with Vibramate String Spoiler. This guitar was expertly assembled at Mike Lull Guitar Works.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe ash body and one-piece maple neck yields a tonal profile that’s authoritative and clear with a complex midrange character and defined note attack, aided further by the hard chrome-plated brass saddles of the Mastery bridge. These qualities are captured faithfully by the pickup complement, which features a pair of early-issue Twisted Tele single coils. The early Twisted Teles were alleged to be even a bit hotter than later models, and these particular pickups meter at ~14.2k ohms at the neck and 8.9k at the bridge. They’re just as sparkly and as one would expect, with a huge, biting twang at the bridge and warm, rounder tones at the neck. The neck pickup has a taller bobbin and more Strat-like wind than a traditional Tele pickup, and both single coils pair well in terms of perceived output, snappy and articulate and with a bit more headroom and power. This Telecaster weighs 8lbs 5oz, professionally setup here at Mike \u0026amp; Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe one-piece maple neck has a soft V-shaped profile carve with some decent chunk to it, measuring .870” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 12th. The maple fretboard features a 9 1\/2” modern radius, lightly rolled edges, and stock medium jumbo fretwire. The frets are in excellent condition, retaining their full factory height with well-rounded crowns and plenty of meat, showing only a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1\/2” scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650” in width. On the headstock, the Kluson-style Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold stable pitch. A small Fender Custom Shop sticker at the heel on the body above the four-bolt F neck plate.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAll of the electronics work as intended, with the Twisted Tele pickups wired to a Baja Tele-style 4-way selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls, complete with an S-1 Push\/Push switch on the Volume pot. For those unfamiliar with the Baja-style 4-way switch configuration; the additional 4th position engages the pickups in series, offering a much fuller and beefier tone than most Teles can produce. The S-1 Push\/Push switch further expands the tonal versatility of the instrument, allowing for out-of-phase tandem pickup configurations in switch positions 2 and 4. The out-of-phase circuitry produces a thinner, hollow-sounding tone which can get quite spanky and squawky in a way that is quite Strat-like.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe chrome hardware includes knurled flat top knobs, a Mastery M1 bridge and baseplate, and Bigsby B5 vibrato which has been augmented with a Vibramate String Spoiler for easier restringing. The Bigsby spring has a smooth, spongy feel for subtle warbles and shimmies. The three-ply mint green pickguard is custom made by Fenderparts in Portland, OR, recreating a vintage-spec sheen and edge bevel. Cosmetic wear on the instrument is limited to a few small chips in the nitro lacquer Shell Pink finish and a tiny area of buckle wear just south of the neck plate.
