Handcrafted in Durham, North Carolina, this discontinued iteration of Dusky’s Toasted Drive is a transparent, low-to-medium gain overdrive that is unique among its myriad peers; instead of opamps and clipping diodes, the Toasted Drive features MOSFET gain stages set up just like the tube gain stages in an amplifier, enabling supremely natural-sounding, amp-like overdrive with a decidedly vintage flavor. Controls include More (Volume), Color (Treble Gain), and Temperature knobs; Temperature sets the gain of the first amplification stage, with a wide sweep from boosted touch-of-dirt sounds all the way up to full-on roaring ‘60s/’70s-style distortion.
