Up for sale, a 2021 Fender Japan Limited International Color Series Stratocaster, like-new and complete with hangtags. With a gloss Maui Blue FSR (Factory Special Run) finish, this Strat replicates the features and unique custom colors of the International Series, first offered from 1979-81. This brand new iteration was made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, rarely seen outside its country of origin and imported directly from Tokyo.
The trio of alnico magnet single coils have plenty of chime and sparkle, governed by a five-way pickup selector switch. The bridge pickup has great cut, while the in-between settings on the switch have quintessential Strat quack, and the neck pickup is bell-like and round. Weighing 7lbs 9oz, we've dialed in this Stratocaster here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 9-42 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The one-piece maple neck has a U-shaped profile carve with tons of shoulder and ample heft, measuring .870” deep at the 1st fret and .915” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a modern 9 1/2" radius with flawless medium jumbo fretwire. The guitar plays effortlessly up the 25 1/2" scale, and the nut measures 41mm (1.615") in width. The headstock has the large '70s shape with block Stratocaster text, and the Fender F tuning machines have the correct vintage look, turn smoothly, and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics work as they should, with a trio of staggered pole piece single coil pickups wired to USA-made CTS pots. The vibrato has a large block for great sustain, and the unit is very responsive for smooth surfy warbles and deeper dives, jumping back to the original pitch with ease. Plastics include black pickup covers and knobs with a white three-ply pickguard that retains its clear protective factory film. The custom color Maui Blue gloss finish rounds out the International Series look.
The Fender-branded gigbag and hangtags are included.
