Up for sale, a 2020 Gibson Custom Shop SG Custom in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtags and CoA. While the SG Custom has been a perennial favorite in Gibson’s model lineup for decades, this spin on the platform features the aesthetics of a Les Paul “Black Beauty,” with a gloss Ebony lacquer finish accented by gold hardware, along with the binding and inlay associated with Gibson’s top tier models.

The tonewood complement of a mahogany body, mahogany neck, and a bound ebony fretboard yields a naturally warm, growly acoustic response with glassy articulation, and the humbuckers are Gibson’s 490R and 498T humbucker pair. These pickups have a particularly broad dynamic range; the 490R neck pickup has a PAF-centric tonal profile with accentuated midrange, and the 498T is a high output powerhouse, great for high gain and cutting crunch. Weighing 8lbs 6oz, this SG Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The mahogany neck has Gibson’s 60s SlimTaper profile, a slender C-shaped carve with notably full shoulders, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .925” at the 12th. The bound ebony fingerboard features mother-of-pearl block inlay, and the medium jumbo fretwire is nigh flawless. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock is framed by multi-ply binding and sports mother-of-pearl split-diamond inlay and gold-plated Grover Rotomatic tuning machines.

Electronics include the 490R and 498T humbucker pair, with 500K CTS pots and a Switchcraft jack, and the control configuration comprises a three-way pickup selector switch and independent pairs of Volume and Tone controls. The Gibson USA-embossed pickup baseplates retain the dated factory stickers from ‘20. The hardware has clean gold plating, and plastics comprise the quartet of reflector cap knobs and the four-ply black pickguard. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Ebony finish is limited to just a scant few imperceptibly tiny nicks and faint scratches on the body as a whole. The gloss on the neck profile is immaculate.

The original Gibson Custom-branded black tolex hardshell case is included, along with the hangtags and CoA.
