Up for sale, a 2020 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1954 Les Paul Standard R4, 100% original and near-mint, complete with the original hardshell case, CoA, and hangtags. Ostensibly a one-off or dealer exclusive, this ‘54 Les Paul Standard is a highly unique iteration of the R4 platform with a VOS Inverness Green top, “Dark Back” finish on the mahogany body, and a pair of original CustomBucker PAF humbuckers. While the PAFs are the idiosyncratic element, other 1954-centric features include slender fretwire and a wraparound tailpiece.
Featherweight for a Les Paul at only 8lbs 3oz, tonewoods include a mahogany body, carved maple top, mahogany neck, and rosewood fretboard, with hot hide glue used throughout. This R4 is fitted with a pair of CustomBucker PAFs; introduced in 2013, these pickups are one of Gibson’s most highly praised PAF iterations, available in select Custom Shop models. Featuring Alnico III magnets, these low-medium output pickups have ample chirp, honk, and bloom, with the added resonance and ringing trebles of the wraparound tailpiece. The set in this particular guitar is highly detailed, balanced, and comfortably versatile with any playing style. This Custom Shop Les Paul has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
