Up for sale, a 2018 Collings 290 Aged in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and ephemera. Named for the scenic 290 highway that winds past the Collings shop though the Texas Hill Country, the 290 is a modern day tribute to the Les Paul Special with an Aged "1959 Faded Crimson" nitro lacquer finish. This Collings is one of the finest USA-made boutique guitars available today, with an eye towards history and exacting standards for tone and modern playability. A solid Honduran mahogany body and neck are the sonic foundation of the 290, and each piece of mahogany is acclimated and hand-selected for density and acoustic response. This guitar is extremely lively and resonant, featherweight at 6lbs 14oz.

The tonewood complement yields a midrange-forward acoustic response with plenty of natural bark and warmth, qualities faithfully captured by the stock pair of ThroBak ‘52/’54 Vintage P-90 pickups. ThroBak spares no expense with the vintage accuracy of their pickups, going so far as to wind these P-90s on the same Geo Stevens vintage design winder with custom traverse and tensioning system as used to wind Gibson's P-90s in the 1950s. As such, these pickups faithfully capture the glassy clarity, detail, and midrange growl of the iconic originals, with an authoritative chewiness at the bridge and a thick punch with sweet trebles at the neck. This Collings benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The gloss 1959 Faded Crimson nitro lacquer finish is meticulously applied and hand-sanded between coats for an ideal thickness and natural acoustic response, aged at Collings with broad lacquer checking. Beyond the synthetic aging, this Collings exhibits only a tiny area of faint buckle rash central to the back. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss.

The original Ameritage black tolex hardshell is included, along with ephemera including the ThroBak CoA (dated 10/12/18), Schaller Signum user guide, and alternate black control cavity and switch covers.
