Up for sale, a 2017 Ronin Foilbucker Type-S in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original G&G hardshell case. During Ronin’s roughly fourteen year run, the Eureka, CA-based builders established themselves as one of the premiere boutique brands in the industry. This Type-S boasts the same Foilbucker pickups as Ronin’s much-lauded Mirari model, with other premium features including the “Magic Button” circuit, MannMade vibrato, Hipshot tuners, and a lightly relic’d gloss Goldburst nitro lacquer finish.
Tonewoods include a swamp ash body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard, and this Foilbucker Type S weighs 7lbs 12oz. At the heart of this guitar are the pair of oversized Foilbucker pickups: as the name would suggest, these pickups are designed to combine the clarity and sweetness of a Goldfoil with the warmth and openness of the best humbucker designs, smooth and punchy at the bridge and exceptionally broad at the neck. The unique circuit offers a remarkably diverse array of tonalities via the push-button Neck Coil Tap and Ronin’s “Magic Button,” which engages a passive piezo wafer installed in the bridge pickup cavity route. When activated, the piezo blends with the pickups for a notably vocal, natural sound, and a range of dobro, banjo, and sitar-inspired sounds can be achieved via the influence of the vibrato springs on the piezo’s signal. This Foilbucker Type-S has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Ronin’s relic process on the gloss Goldburst nitro lacquer finish includes “shattered glass” checking across the body and a handful of simulated dings, primarily concentrated along the perimeter. There is sparingly little wear beyond the factory aging, and the smooth gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
