Up for sale, a 2016 Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition 1957 Stratocaster Heavy Relic in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtags, COA and case candy. This discontinued Custom Shop offering sports a unique Heavy Relic Lake Placid Blue over Pink Paisley nitro lacquer finish, loaded with Fender's hand-wound Poblano Ancho black bobbin pickups.

Featuring the traditional tonewood complement of an alder body and one-piece AA flame maple neck, this Strat has a broad, lively acoustic platform with great clarity and immediacy, qualities faithfully captured by the trio of Fender's Custom Shop Poblano Ancho pickups. These pickups are hand-wound and deliver a wide array of Strat tones, with each pickup individually calibrated. The Poblano Ancho pickups are subtly overwound, offering touch of heat; the bridge pickup has flush-mount Alnico 5 pole pieces for Texas-style body and cut, and the neck and middle pickups have a staggered Alnico 3 design for vintage warmth and sweetness, with ample quack at the “in-between” positions on the five-way selector switch. This Custom Shop Strat is featherweight at 6lbs 13oz, benefiting from a professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The quartersawn AA flame maple neck has a medium depth soft V-shaped profile carve at the nut, with a gentle increase in overall heft and shoulder in the higher registers, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .990” at the 12th. The fretboard has a modern 9 1/2“ radius and medium jumbo fretwire that's practically perfect, with just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This Strat plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1.650” in width. On the headstock, the Kluson-style Fender single-line tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, and the Custom Shop Limited Edition decal is intact on the back of the headstock. The four-bolt neck plate is also embossed with the Custom Shop chevron logo and “Limited Edition” text.

The Custom Shop Poblano Ancho pickups are governed by a five-way pickup selector switch and Volume/Tone/Tone controls, and the second Tone knob also functions on the bridge pickup, smoothing out any high treble frequencies. The vibrato actuates smoothly and bounces quickly back to pitch from surfy warbles and deeper dives. All hardware and plastics show light factory aging as part of the Heavy Relic process.

The nitro lacquer finish is a unique spin on a golden age Fender "double finish," with the Heavy Relic treatment showcasing the Pink Paisley material beneath a heavily checked Lake Placid Blue. There is virtually no wear on the instrument beyond the factory aging, and the neck profile's aging yields a worn-in, satin-esque feel, highlighting the figuring in the AA flame maple.

The black tolex Custom Shop G&G hardshell case with crushed velvet interior is included, along with the hangtags, COA, factory paperwork and case candy.
