Up for sale, a 2014 Gibson Five-String EB Bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtag. Offered only from 2013-2016, this since-discontinued iteration of the EB platform features a unique contoured offset body shape, a pair of Alnico V humbuckers designed by pickup specialist Jim DeCola with individual coil taps, a Babicz Full Contact bridge, a set-neck design, and a limited run satin Cherry finish.

Tonewoods include a swamp ash body with a satin-finished maple neck capped by a thick slab rosewood fretboard. At 9lbs 11oz, this bass has plenty of natural acoustic authority and resonance, with the midrange heft and definition inherent in ash. The newly-designed humbuckers are wound particularly hot, metering at 11.2k ohms in the neck position and a whopping 16.8k ohms at the bridge. These humbuckers offer rich thump, midrange growl and articulate treble grind. The push/pull coil taps on the two Volume controls enable single coil functionality for brighter sounds that have more upper midrange articulation, burp and cut. Engaging one of the coil taps (while leaving the other pickup in humbucker mode) is an excellent way to keep the sound fat, while providing additional clarity for the low B string. We’ve had this Gibson professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-125 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a slender D-shaped profile carve with full, inviting shoulders in every register, measuring .800” deep at the 1st fret and .900” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has pearloid dot inlay and the 12th fret “120th Anniversary” banner inlay. The medium jumbo fretwire is pristine, at full factory height with well-rounded crowns, and the bass plays cleanly up the full 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The stock PLEK-cut nut measures 1 3/4“ in width, and the headstock features Grover tuning machines which perform optimally with a 20:1 ratio.

All of the electronics function as intended, with an untouched wiring harness and Volume/Volume/Tone controls governing the humbucker pair. The Babicz Patented Full Contact bridge is designed to deliver optimal sustain, with block saddles and pristine chrome plating. Plastics comprise the original trio of knobs and the black four-ply pickguard. The satin Cherry finish highlights the broad, dynamic grain in the ash body, with cosmetic wear limited to a few minor dings along the lower bout perimeter, an area of buckle rash on the back central to the upper bout, and a faint round sticker "tanline" on the bass-side lower bout on top. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is flawless.

The original Gibson-branded brown tolex hardshell case with form-fit pink plush interior is included, along with the factory hangtag.
