Up for sale, a 2014 Fender Custom Shop 1964 Jazzmaster Relic from the "Time Machine" series in near mint condition and in perfect working order. 100% stock and complete with the original hangtags, COA, case candy, and brown tolex G&G hardshell case, this is a prime example of a limited run Jazzmaster with Custom Shop quality. The guitar sports a Candy Apple Red nitro lacquer finish accented by a mint green pickguard and aged plastic parts.
The Time Machine series of Custom Shop instruments endeavors to deliver a guitar that replicates the exact specifications, tonal response and feel of its forbearers, and this Relic example (light factory aging) has been exceptionally well-kept since new. Lightweight and resonant at 8lbs, the guitar has an alder body, one-piece quartersawn maple neck, and rosewood fretboard. Tonally, there's plenty to be excited about here, with the rich detail, chime, and twang associated with the Jazzmaster single coil pickups, wound to original spec with beveled alnico pole pieces. While the bridge pickup is spanky with a touch of growl, the neck pickup has more girth and roundness without sacrificing clarity. Switch to the Rhythm Circuit on the bass side body horn and the neck pickup has even more thickness and low end power, perfect for singing leads on a small overdriven tube amp or for adding body to your favorite buzzsaw fuzz pedal. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Jazzmaster is dialed in with low action, accurate intonation, and 10-46 strings.
The neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulder at the nut and a gentle increase in overall heft further up the fretboard. The fretboard edges are rolled for a particularly comfortable and inviting feel, and the profile measures .805" deep at the 1st fret and .950" at the 12th. The guitar conforms to vintage spec with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius, clay dot inlay, and practically perfect slender fretwire with well-rounded crowns. The nut measures 1.650" in width. On the headstock, the Kluson-style Fender-branded single line tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The Candy Apple Red nitro gloss-finished headstock face is topped off with a Pre-CBS spec "spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo.
All of the electronics work as they should, all of the factory hardware is present with light aging as part of the Relic process. The vibrato has a smooth and responsive feel for quick surfy warbles and dives. Plastics include a mint green pickguard and lightly yellowed ivory pickup covers and witch hat knobs.
While on any Relic it can be difficult to parse genuine playwear from simulated factory aging, suffice it to say that this instrument has been sparingly played since new. The instrument exhibits very tight, prominent lacquer checking and various small finish chips and marks to simulate light use. The neck profile retains its smooth nitro gloss, with simulated palm wear on the shoulders of the carve.
The original brown tolex G&G hardshell case is included, along with the original COA, hangtags, and case candy.
