Up for sale, a 2013 Gibson Custom Shop Southern Jumbo in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. This rare Custom Shop special-ordered iteration of the classic Southern Jumbo dreadnought platform is faithful to vintage spec with an X-braced Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck, and bound rosewood fretboard, outfitted with an LR Baggs Anthem pickup.
This Custom Shop Southern Jumbo has the punch and projection of Gibson's best slope shoulder dreadnoughts, with plain strings that are round and sweet, while the wound strings have a rich bark. A rewarding strummer with great string-to-string clarity and a detail that also lends itself to fingerpicking, this particular instrument is exceedingly lively and immediate, with notes simply leaping off the fingerboard.
The LR Baggs Anthem features a hybrid of Baggs’ proprietary TRU-MIC technology with an Element piezo pickup. The TRU-MIC comprises a hovering microphone mounted 3mm away from the surface of the bridge plate: this unique mounting system frees up the mic, enabling it to perform as though it were outside the guitar while maintaining great feedback suppression. As such, it’s incredibly faithful to the natural tone of the instrument while offering more onstage flexibility than a traditional mic’d setup, and the Mix control enables blending with the bright, immediate tone of the Element piezo. Weighing 4lbs 5oz, this Southern Jumbo has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, dialed in with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.
