Up for sale, a 2011 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1960 Les Paul Standard R0 VOS in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtags, and case candy. This rare Custom Shop Historic Les Paul is one of a select few instruments crafted to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Japanese distributor Kurosawa Gakki: to celebrate, Kurosawa representatives visited the Gibson factory in Nashville, TN and hand-selected some of Gibson’s finest guitars to bring back for the anniversary, including this R0. This particular R0 features a AA flame maple top, Grover Rotomatic tuning machines, a VOS Iced Tea Burst nitro lacquer finish, and a pair of notably early CustomBuckers (the pickups would appear on select Custom Shop instruments in 2011-2012, but wouldn’t be fully incorporated into the Historic line until 2013).
Traditional tonewoods include a mahogany body, two-piece AA flame maple top, mahogany neck, and bound rosewood fretboard, and at 9lbs 6oz, this R0 dishes out great natural sustain with a lively, authoritative chop and sparkle when played acoustically. The CustomBuckers have since become one of Gibson’s most highly praised PAFs, only available in select Custom Shop models, featuring Alnico III magnets and delivering terrific chirp, honk, and bloom. This particular pair of CustomBuckers are wound slightly hotter than later iterations, yielding plenty of midrange-forward warmth and growl with smooth-yet-punchy trebles. This Custom Shop Historic 1960 Les Paul Standard R0 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The VOS Ice Tea Burst nitro lacquer finish highlights the broad curly figuring in the AA flame maple top, framed by cream binding which exhibits limited checking. Cosmetic wear includes buckle wear on the bass side of the back, some small finish chips along the lower bout perimeter, and additional small dings from careful use. The neck profile has a smooth, inviting feel with a few similarly small marks that don’t distract the palm while fretting (more restrained than current Murphy aging on the profiles).
The original Gibson Custom black tolex hardshell case is included, along with the serialized hangtags and case candy (including a T. Kurosawa 55th Anniversary truss rod cover).
