Up for sale, a 2011 Fender Jeff Beck “TeleGib” Telecaster in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This exceedingly rare, non-catalog Fender Japan model was produced in very limited quantities exclusively for the Japanese domestic market.
Inspired by the famous TeleGib instrument assembled for Jeff Beck by Seymour Duncan in the '70s and used on Blow by Blow, this Telecaster features an ash body and a one-piece maple neck, loaded with a pair of Fender Japan Dragster humbuckers. The sound is rich, dynamic, and authoritative, with the harmonic complexity, airy trebles, and midrange clarity of a PAF-style design. The low end is round and focused, with a certain sweetness, and each position on the three-way pickup selector switch is distinct. This guitar weighs 8lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The one-piece maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .840” deep at the 1st fret and .920” at the 12th. The fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the slender fretwire is extremely clean, exhibiting just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-5. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. On the headstock, the Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and U-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the humbuckers governed by a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls. The chrome-plated hardware includes the shortened bridge base with individual '70s-style block saddles, and control plate with domed knurled knobs. The matte one-ply '50s pickguard exhibits some requisite scuffing on the treble side of the strum path.
The gloss Butterscotch Blonde finish has great transparency, showcasing the grain of the ash body. Cosmetic wear includes a handful of dings on the top, some very light buckle worming on the back at the lower bout, and a scant few faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is pristine.
