Up for sale, a 2009 Gibson Billy Gibbons "Pearly Gates" 1959 Les Paul Standard VOS in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtags, and COA. A Custom Shop Historic model limited to 250 pieces worldwide, the Pearly Gates is a faithful recreation of Billy Gibbons' most iconic instrument with a hand-selected premium bookmatched figured maple top and the same aging of the Sunburst consistent with Gibbons' guitar, showcasing deeper hues of burgundy on the edges of the burst on the upper bout.

Designed to replicate the unique tonal properties of Gibbons' 1959 Les Paul, the Seymour Duncan humbuckers made for this model share the same name as the instrument, delivering more midrange and "Texas sizzle" than a typical PAF. The pickups really cut through thanks to the tailored midrange while retaining the open, airy treble attack of the Alnico II bar magnet. Combined with a warm, spongy low-end, these pickups are great for both rhythm and lead playing, responding equally well to sparkling cleans and ripping drive. The guitar is extremely lightweight at 8lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The mahogany neck has a round "baseball bat" C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder and ideal heft, measuring .910" deep at the 1st fret and .990" at the 12th. The medium jumbo frets are flawless on the rosewood fretboard, and the guitar plays easily in every register up the straight neck. The guitar conforms to traditional Gibson spec with a 24 3/4" scale length and 1 11/16" nut width. The headstock features Gibson Deluxe Kluson-style tuning machines with push-in bushings and aged keystone buttons.

The electronics function flawlessly, with the factory-installed Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbuckers that are central to the tone of this particular '59 Les Paul iteration. The wiring harness features untouched solder and Bumblebee tone caps, with the small "R9" stamp in the corner of the cavity, consistent with Gibson's 1959 Historic models. The nickel hardware is factory aged, most notably on the pickup covers, and all original plastics are intact.

The particular burst gradient on the Pearly Gates is both distinctive and alluring, highlighting the tight ripples of curly flame extending across the top, with different areas of figuring on the carved maple cap catching the light at varying angles. Exceedingly clean, cosmetic wear on the instrument is limited to just a couple tiny marks on the back lower bout body edge and at the bass-side waist, while the neck profile is flawless.

One of Gibson's most collectible and highly sought after 1959 Les Paul iterations, the Pearly Gates model preceded the "Collectors Choice" instruments, and was essentially a pilot program for that line, recreating the exact specs and burst gradient of a specific, iconic Les Paul. Limited to 250 pieces worldwide, this is easily one of the nicest examples of the Pearly Gates model available anywhere.

The original hardshell case with Billy Gibbon's silkscreened gold signature on the lid is included, and the case is equally as clean as the guitar. The COA is also present, along with all original hangtags.
