Up for sale, a 2006 Gibson Explorer '76 vintage reissue model in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and factory paperwork. Ordered by Gibson's Japanese distributor Yamano, Gibson's USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered among their best, featuring the highest quality woods picked for Gibson's discerning Japanese audience.
This Explorer has an abundance of power on tap via the stock 496R neck position humbucker and an upgraded Seymour Duncan JB humbucker at the bridge. The radically shaped solid mahogany body adds inherent warmth and fullness to the sound, with a sweet, natural sustain and rich resonance that translates well through the pickups. The focused and cutting ceramic magnet 496R offers plenty of punch and bass register clarity, while the JB is Seymour Duncan's original high output humbucker, delivering rich, powerful low end, detailed highs, and an upper-midrange bump that adds crunch and chunk to heavy chords that translates to a singing, vocal-like quality when you play single notes or solos. The guitar weighs 8lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender, fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve at the nut with full shoulders in every register, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .865" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a 12" radius and features the original flawless medium jumbo fretwire. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and ideally adjusted, responsive truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains the original mini Grover Rotomatic tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics function as intended, with individual Volume controls for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The neck position humbucker has a "Gibson USA"-embossed baseplate, the Seymour Duncan bridge pickup retains its “JB” sticker, and the wiring harness features a premium Orange Drop tone capacitor. "CH" is handwritten on the neck tenon visible in the neck pickup cavity, denoting the Cherry gloss nitro lacquer finish. The chrome hardware and black speed knobs are particularly clean, and the factory protective plastic is still intact on the rear control cavity cover, a testament to how little this guitar has been played since new. Cosmetic wear is limited to a stray shallow mark in the clear coat at the treble side upper bout tip, a couple minuscule finish chips at the lower bout edge, and a few light finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss, mostly relegated to the back of the body. The neck sports a pristine smooth gloss finish.
The original black tolex hardshell case and Gibson/Yamano factory paperwork is included.
