Up for sale, a 2004 Peavey EVH Wolfgang Special in mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. A non-production model with a single bridge position humbucker, this Wolfgang was 1 of 5 produced by Peavey's Custom Shop expressly for Eddie Van Halen himself for touring use. This exact instrument never saw the rigors of the road, and is still essentially new.
The successor to the Music Man EVH model, the Peavey Wolfgang Special features an intensely figured curly flame maple top paired with a basswood body and a maple neck, also heavily figured with birdseye extending liberally across the profile and fretboard.
This Wolfgang delivers a clear and authoritative natural acoustic quality faithfully captured by the zebra bobbin bridge position humbucker. Perfectly tailored for high gain and articulate cleans, this hotly-wound pickup offers great treble detail and focused low end. This EVH weighs just 7lbs 5oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action and spot-on intonation.
The birdseye maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .925” at the 12th. The fingerboard has a 15" radius with pristine 6105 size fretwire. This guitar plays clearly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight, dual graphite reinforced neck with adjustable torsion rod. The locking nut measures 1 5/8” in width and the headstock features sealed chrome tuners. The back of the headstock retains the stamped serial and EVH signature brand.
The streamlined electronics function flawlessly, with the hotly-wound zebra bobbin humbucker governed by a single Volume knob. The Peavey-branded Floyd Rose two-point tremolo system shines like new and actuates effortlessly, perfect for the deepest divebombs. EVH was the first artist to have a signature Floyd Rose, and this particular unit was designed specifically for the Wolfgang Special, featuring the addition of a D-Tuna for instant drop D tuning.
Unlike the previous Music Man EVH which had a thinner maple veneer, the Peavey model's top is a much thicker cut, and this particular piece of bookmatched maple has tight, dimensional curly flame extending liberally across every inch. There's barely a scratch on the gloss-finished body, and the oil-finished neck is equally pristine.
The original Peavey-branded molded hardshell case is included, along with the original factory paperwork. This was one of the very last Peavey Wolfgangs to be produced by the Custom Shop, with the paperwork dated to Dec 22, 2004.
