Up for sale, a 2004 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1956 Les Paul Goldtop "R6" in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original COA, hangtags, and hardshell case. Much rarer than most of the Custom Shop's Historic Les Paul Standard reissues, this R6 is an absolute joy to play and the perfect blend of early Les Paul features and optimal playability.

Well-balanced, acoustically resonant, and offering plenty of natural punch and sustain at 9lbs 14oz, this Les Paul has a very powerful and authoritative tone unplugged that translates well through the stock P-90 pickups. The nitro lacquer goldtop has an ideal bronzing and tint, and the traditional combination of a carved maple top and solid mahogany body has never sounded better. The P-90s have an articulate, glassy treble snap and midrange bark, with an extremely musical and rich set of tonalities that range from growl and aggressive cut in the bridge position, to detailed and smooth sounds in the neck position. Excelling both at cleans and high gain crunch, this Custom Shop model epitomizes the quality craftsmanship and attention to detail that has made Gibson's modern Historic line a favorite with players and collectors alike. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul is strung with fresh 10-46 strings and features low action and accurate intonation.

The quartersawn mahogany neck has a very round baseball bat C-shaped profile carve with ample shoulder, bordering on U territory given its imposing size, measuring .930" deep at the 1st fret and 1.030" at the 12th. On the dark rosewood fretboard, the stock medium jumbo fretwire is flawless, and the guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The headstock has all of the hallmarks of a true '50s instrument, with the thin holly veneer, 17 degree angle, inked serial number, and Kluson-style Gibson Deluxe tuning machines with greened keystone buttons.

All of the electronics work as they should, with the original P-90 pickups and untouched solder on the harness which features Bumblebee tone caps. The plastics are near mint, and the hardware shows just a hint of patina on the nickel plating. Stunningly well-kept, the nitro lacquer finish shows just a couple exceedingly faint finish scratches on the back, while the neck profile is flawless.

The original Gibson "Custom, Art & Historic" black tolex hardshell case is included, along with a particularly rare matching white plush blanket that lays between the guitar and lid. The COA is included, along with the hangtags and strap.
