Up for sale, a 2004 Fender Yngwie Malmsteen signature Stratocaster model ST71-140YM in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original tweed hardshell case and all hangtags. This is a premium iteration of the Yngwie Strat platform, with the exceptional feel and tone for which Fender Japan is known. This is also a discontinued, non-export model designed for sale only within Japan. This model boasts a scalloped maple fretboard, brass nut, super jumbo fretwire, and DiMarzio pickups.
The pickup complement includes USA-made DiMarzio DP217 and DP127 pickups in the neck and bridge positions, and a Fender Japan ST-Vintage single coil in the middle. The Dimarzios offers hum-free performance with a broad low end that's warm and tight, and a smooth, glassy treble response that has a hair more presence than the HS-3 (DP117) Yngwie pickups. These qualities combine perfectly with a heavily distorted amp, because the sound won’t get muddy or messy, and the basswood body ensures a balanced, neutral platform for the pickups. Weighing 7lbs 7oz and professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Strat with low action, accurate intonation, and 10-46 strings.
The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .905” at the 12th. The super jumbo frets on the 10" radius fretboard retain their full factory height, practically perfect with well-rounded crowns. The original brass nut measures 41mm in width (just a hair shy of 1 5/8") and the large '70s-style headstock has the correct block logo, Yngwie's signature, and Fender F tuners. The "Crafted in Japan" text and R-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as they should, and the wiring harness is untouched, with full-size 250k pots and a five-way switch. Plastics include a bright white three-ply pickguard, and lightly aged knobs and pickup covers. The bridge shows prominent surface patina on all the saddles, and the tremolo has a full-size steel block for optimal sustain and clarity, responding effortlessly for deep dives and expressive warbles, jumping back to the original pitch with ease.
The gloss finish is factory abbreviated YWH (Yellow White), as it's a purposefully yellowed iteration of Olympic White that closely matches Yngwie's vintage Strats. Cosmetic wear is limited to some minor dings on the body as a whole, and light finish checking at the edges of the neck pocket and near the rear strap button. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original tweed Fender-branded hardshell case is included and equally as clean as the guitar. All hangtags are included as well, including the serialized certificate stamped with the model number.
