Up for sale, a 2003 Gibson Custom Shop Historic ‘61 Les Paul SG Custom in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Replicating the brief period where Les Paul’s endorsement was used to market the model we now know as the SG, this Custom Shop Historic ‘61 Les Paul SG Custom features a heavily aged Polaris White nitro lacquer finish, gold hardware including the ABR-1 bridge and long frame Maestro Vibrola, a trio of ‘57 Classic PAF humbuckers, and a slender ‘60s-style neck carve.
The SG Custom’s mahogany construction results in plenty of natural low-mid warmth, balanced by the treble attack and glassy cut of the ebony fingerboard. Featuring construction true to Gibson’s golden age PAF, the ‘57 Classics boast Alnico II magnet construction, yielding warm, spongy lows and clear trebles, with focused growl at the bridge, woody chop with the middle+bridge engaged, and smooth, bold cut at the neck. Weighing 7lbs 15oz, this Custom Shop Historic ‘61 Les Paul SG Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The Polaris White gloss nitro lacquer finish is heavily yellowed, with very tight “shattered glass” lacquer checking and a prominent tan line on top from a removed sticker. There is buckle rash central to the back and several small dings on the body, primarily relegated to the lower bout. The nitro gloss on the neck profile also exhibits some checking, smooth to the palm.
The original black tolex “Gibson Custom, Art & Historic Division” hardshell case is included.
