Up for sale, a 2000 National Style “O” in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. Handcrafted in San Luis Obispo, this iteration of National’s flagship single cone roundneck resonator is very much in line with vintage spec, with features including a sieve coverplate, V-shaped neck profile, an ebony fingerboard with cross-cut grained ivoroid binding, and a nickel-plated brass body etched with a traditional Hawaiian motif on front and back.
The classic, no-frills combination of a brass body, biscuit bridge resonator cone and rolled f holes ensure this Style “O” kicks like a mule, with fantastic projection and immediacy. The plain strings are crisp and punchy, and there’s a warm, bubbling smoothness to the low end that acts as an ideal counterpoint to the brassy snap inherent to the instrument. Weighing 9lbs 1oz, this Style “O” has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-52 strings and easy-playing action.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Chunky V, measuring .935” 1st fret, 1.030” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony, cross-cut grained ivoroid binding, dot inlay
-Frets: Slender, light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-7
-Scale Length: 25”
-Nut: 1 13/16”, bone
-Tuners: Open-gear strip (nickel-plated)
-Headstock: Slotted, National badge
Body Specs:
-Coverplate: Sieve
-F holes: Rolled
-Hardware: Biscuit bridge and cover, trapeze tailpiece
-Factory Markings: Bracing pencil dated to 2000
The etched Hawaiian motif on top and back (and side-stripe on the rims) is a subtle application, and there are just a few minor scratches on the body. The smooth Sunburst satin finish on the neck profile highlights subtle flame figuring in the maple, with only a couple shallow marks along the profile length that are virtually undetectable to the palm.
A hardshell case is included.
