Up for sale, a 1999 Jackson Stars Japan Pride Soloist model J.P. SL-175 in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. A rare Japanese domestic market model, the Jackson Stars instruments are the direct descendants of the Grover Jackson line, expertly crafted at the Chu Shin factory.

This particular Soloist iteration was crafted as part of the short-lived Japan Pride series, a limited production run of top-tier guitars designed “with the lofty goal of using all of Japan’s current technology to create a guitar that we can be proud of in the world,” according to a 1999 catalog. Premium features include neck-through construction, a quilted maple top highlighted by the gloss Trans Red finish, an SSH trio of Seymour Duncan pickups, and gold hardware including the Schaller Floyd Rose-licensed tremolo.

Tonewoods include a maple neck, ash body wings, quilted maple top, and a 24-fret rosewood fretboard, and the neck-through construction results in ample natural sustain and cut. The USA-made Seymour Duncan pickup complement includes a TB-5 Trembucker in the bridge position and a pair of Classic Stack hum-cancelling single coils. The Trembucker provides an unmistakable upper midrange attack, with a tight, articulate low end, and harmonically rich highs that really sing, while the Classic Stack single-coil pickups offer all of the sparkle and chime of pure Strat tone without the hum. This Soloist weighs 8lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action, and accurate intonation.
