Up for sale, a 1999 Gibson Les Paul Custom in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtags and strap. Ordered by Gibson's Japanese distributor Yamano, Gibson's USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered among their best, featuring the highest quality woods picked for Gibson's discerning Japanese audience.
From an increasingly heralded era of Gibson production, this Les Paul makes the most of the classic combination of a solid mahogany body, carved two-piece maple top, and genuine ebony fretboard, delivering a bold, muscly acoustic voice with great articulation and warmth. Weighing 11lbs 10oz, this Les Paul has tons of natural sustain, punch and impressive clarity. The original 490R and 498T humbuckers offer a wide tonal palette, with Alnico II magnets in the neck pickup yielding more chime and warmth, while the Alnico V bridge pickup is tailored for gain with plenty of output and roar. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with 10-46 strings, this Les Paul is everything a top-tier Gibson model was designed to be.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with additional heft and shoulder in the upper registers, measuring .840” deep at the 1st fret and .990" at the 12th. The ebony fretboard has mother of pearl block inlay and original flawless medium jumbo fretwire which retains its full factory height and well-rounded crowns. The neck is straight, and the guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock has all the classic appointments of a Les Paul Custom, with multi-ply binding, split diamond pearl inlay, and "Custom" truss rod cover. The original Grover Rotomatic tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics work as they should, with a pair of stock Gibson 490R and 498T humbuckers wired to the original harness with untouched solder joints and Gibson-embossed Alpha 500k pots. The hardware includes the Nashville bridge and stopbar, and the gold plating is bright and clean with only light surface patina. Plastics include the multi-ply pickguard and quartet of black speed knobs.
The gloss Wine Red finish exhibits broad vertical lacquer checking across the body, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a few light finish scratches and minor marks on the body as a whole. The gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case with pink plush interior is included, along with the Gibson/Yamano hangtags.
