Complete with the original hardshell case and factory paperwork noting Gibson's Japanese distributor Yamano, this USA-made Thunderbird was originally sold to the Japanese domestic market, befitting Yamano's reputation for demanding Gibson's finest woods, often a cut above what arrives to most USA dealers.As its name would suggest, this bass thunders and growls with the best, producing incredible low end thump and grind. Featuring nine-ply mahogany and walnut neck-through body construction, black hardware, a three-point bridge, and a warm Tobacco Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish, the Thunderbird delivers the goods via two imposing TB Plus ceramic magnet humbuckers. The pickups deliver the kind of push and compression that brings out the growl in the mahogany and walnut construction, and a thick slab ebony fretboard adds top end detail and note attack. Currently strung with roundwound 45-100 strings on the full 34\" scale, these strings accentuate the rich, aggressive tendencies of the Thunderbird design. The bass weighs 9lbs 4oz with very little neck dive thanks to the low profile Schaller-made tuning machines. This Thunderbird has been professionally setup here at Mike \u0026amp; Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation.The neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with fuller shoulders and more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .835\" deep at the 1st fret and .970\" at the 12th. The thick slab ebony fretboard retains the original medium jumbo frets which have flawless crowns and play easily in every register. The nut measures 1 1\/2\" in width, and the headstock retains the original Gibson-branded truss rod cover as well as the Gibson-branded and Schaller-made black tuning machines.The electronics all function as intended, with two Gibson-embossed Alpha pots and one modern CTS 500k replacement. The black hardware shows just a touch of patina on the bridge, and the trio of original reflector cap knobs are intact. The pickguard retains a fully intact Thunderbird silkscreen, and the clear protective factory plastic is present on the rear control cavity cover, a testament to the sparingly little use this bass has seen since new. The gloss nitro lacquer Tobacco Sunburst finish shows a few light finish scratches and minor marks on the back, mostly clustered just below the forward strap button. Similar wear is present yet more restrained on top, with light pick wear also extending across the treble side of the strum path. The neck profile retains its smooth nitro gloss with a touch of finish checking on the fretboard edges.The original brown Gibson USA hardshell case is included, along with all of the factory paperwork.","brand":"Gibson","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":42329808634112,"sku":"90698765","price":2399.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0550\/4437\/4714\/products\/medium_ade208ab-431f-4c1c-b1e9-f657a6e45ecd.jpg?v=1751567264","url":"https:\/\/mmguitarbar.com\/products\/1998-gibson-thunderbird-iv-neck-through-bass-sunburst-w-case-hangtags-yamano","provider":"Mike \u0026 Mike's Guitar Bar","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
