Up for sale, a 1998 Gibson Limited Edition Les Paul Standard, near-mint and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. 100% original save for modern 500k CTS pots with tighter tolerances, this Goldtop Les Paul dates to what is increasingly known as the “good wood” era. Ordered by Gibson’s Japanese distributor Yamano, Gibson’s USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered to be among their best, featuring the highest quality woods picked for Gibson’s discerning Japanese audience.

This Les Paul weighs 9lbs 11oz, and tonewoods include a mahogany body, two-piece maple top, one-piece mahogany neck, and bound rosewood fingerboard. Via the original 490R and 498T humbucker pair, the guitar has plenty of power on tap, and these alnico magnet pickups cover a wide tonal range. The 490R is Gibson's Modern Classic humbucker, featuring Alnico II magnets and similar in its response to a PAF, yet with more midrange emphasis. The 498T Hot Alnico bridge position pickup has Alnico V magnets, with plenty of muscle and growl, well-suited for high gain scenarios. This Les Paul Standard has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
