Up for sale, a 1998 Gibson Custom Shop Historic '68 Les Paul Custom in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and factory documentation. This Custom Shop iteration of the Les Paul Custom platform features a bound ebony fingerboard, ‘57 Classic PAF humbuckers, and a gloss Arctic White finish. This particular Les Paul Custom was ordered by Gibson’s Japanese distributor Yamano; Gibson’s USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered to be among their absolute best, featuring the highest quality woods picked for Gibson’s discerning Japanese audience.
Traditional tonewoods include a mahogany body, two-piece carved maple top, mahogany neck, and bound ebony fingerboard, and this Les Paul Custom weighs 10lbs 3oz. The natural acoustic tone offers punch, detail and ample sustain, qualities that translate well via the ‘57 Classic PAF humbuckers. These medium-wind pickups have spongy lows, detailed treble growl, and a midrange scoop that interacts well with high gain. This Les Paul Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The gloss Alpine White finish exhibits limited checking and yellowing of the clear coat, particularly behind the bridge on top. Cosmetic wear is limited to wear on top adjacent to the bridge thumbwheels and stoptail inserts, one small chip on the top binding at the treble-side waist, some faint finish scratches on the back that falls well short of “buckle rash," and a scant few additional nicks and scuffs on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth nitro gloss.
The original black tolex Custom Art & Historic hardshell case is included, along with the Gibson/Yamano manual and warranty pamphlet.
