Up for sale, a 1996 Orville Flying V model FV-75 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with hangtag. A rare, upscale Flying V, this Orville features a custom color finish qualified as “Sonic Blue” in the original catalog, along with a short-frame Maestro-style vibrola tailpiece.
Made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and rarely seen outside its country of origin, this Orville is an official Gibson-licensed guitar and a result of a partnership between Gibson USA and their Japanese distributor Yamano Gakki. Named after Gibson's founder, Orville Gibson, this discontinued Orville model was crafted at the Fujigen factory.
This Orville faithfully captures the specs of a ‘67 Flying V, featuring all-mahogany construction with a rosewood fretboard. The humbuckers are crafted in the PAF mold, with a rich growl and upper midrange detail in the bridge position, while the neck pickup is nice and fat, ideal for lead work. This Flying V weighs 6lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Medium C, measuring .835” 1st fret, .960” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, dot inlay
-Frets: Medium jumbo, faint wear on frets 1-2
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 9/16”, bone
-Tuners: Kluson-style, aged keystone buttons
-Serialization: 6-prefix, six-digit
Body Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Pickups: Orville Original HB humbucker x2
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone, Three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Short-frame Maestro-style vibrola, ABR-1 bridge
-Plastics: Three-ply pickguard, reflector cap knobs
While originally advertised as Sonic Blue, the finish exhibits some subtle yellowing of the clear coat and diffusion of the factory color, presenting as a subtly minty blue/green shade. Cosmetic wear is limited to one small chip on the perimeter adjacent to the lower strap button and a few minor dings and faint finish scratches, largely on the back. The gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
The original form-fit faux leather gigbag is included, along with the serialized hangtag.
