Up for sale, a 1996 Ibanez Paul Gilbert signature model PGM800 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded hardshell case. A relatively short-lived iteration of Ibanez’s signature model for the Mr. Big guitarist, this PGM800 features Gilbert’s distinctive faux painted F-holes, a reverse headstock, hardtail bridge, an HSH trio of DiMarzio pickups, and a solid ash body with a “Brown Stain” finish meant to evoke the look of one of Gilbert’s custom-built Ibanez instruments, lovingly referred to as the “Plywood Special” due to the ash veneers on that particular instrument.
The ash body results in a certain midrange heft and note detail, providing an ideal platform for the HSH trio of DiMarzio pickups. The humbuckers in the bridge and neck position are Tone Zones, high output pickups that are very dynamic and responsive to user inputs, with a huge lower midrange to reinforce and fatten the initial bite. The JEM Single in the middle position yields ample sparkle and shimmer, pairing well with the humbuckers in positions 2 and 4 on the five-way pickup selector switch. This PGM800 weighs 6lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and accurate intonation.
