Up for sale, a 1995 Fender Jaguar ‘62 vintage reissue model JG66-85 in excellent condition and in perfect working order with a custom color Candy Apple Red finish and matching headstock. This Jaguar was produced at the much-lauded “Made in Japan” era of Fender Japan production, designed for sale to a domestic Japanese audience and uncommon outside of its country of origin.
A guitar designed to out-twang any other Fender, the Jaguar can sparkle with the best, delivering biting, crystalline clean tones and responding very well to layers of fuzz and drive too. With its myriad of switching options, the Jaguar boasts on/off switches for each single coil as well as a low cut switch to deliver even spankier tic-tac tones with thinned-out sizzle. The Rhythm Circuit offers further flexibility, thickening up the sound and a perfect setting for fatter, warmer tones that retain clarity. This Jaguar weighs 8lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar (where we specialize in Offset Fender instruments) with 11-49 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius and stock slender frets that are in good shape with well-rounded crowns, showing only moderate wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-8. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width, and the Candy Apple Red-finished headstock features a set of upgraded chrome-plated Kluson Deluxe double-line tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and N-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as they should, with individual on/off switches for each pickup on the Lead Circuit, in addition to the bass cut (or "strangle switch") on/off toggle and Master Volume and Tone knobs. The wiring harness has been largely upgraded, with cloth-covered leads and all new USA Fender components in the Rhythm Circuit. There is a wood fill on the edge of the Rhythm Circuit cavity from a previous (reversed) modification, with targeted finish touch-up. The chrome hardware is positively gleaming, including the control plates and bridge with threaded saddles. The vibrato unit works well for surfy warbles and dives, fitted with a replacement vibrato arm. Plastics include uniformly aged pickup covers and the three-ply parchment pickguard.
Wear on the vibrant gloss Candy Apple Red finish includes a handful of minor nicks and dings on the body as a whole, largely concentrated along the lower bout perimeter and on the treble side of the back, along with some faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss.
A gigbag is included.
