This flame top Lemon Burst ‘59 reissue Les Paul was the top-tier model offered in the “Orville by Gibson” line, featuring factory-installed USA-made Gibson ‘57 Classic PAF humbuckers. Produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and seldom seen outside of its country of origin, this Orville is an official Gibson-licensed guitar and the result of a partnership between Gibson USA and the Japanese distributor, Yamano Gakki. Named after Gibson’s founder, Orville Gibson, this discontinued Orville model was crafted at the Fujigen factory.Tonewoods include a solid mahogany body, carved maple top, one-piece mahogany neck with long tenon joint, and a pair of factory-installed Gibson USA '57 Classic PAF humbuckers. This early pair of wax-potted, Alnico II ‘57 Classic PAFs both meter at 7.9k ohms, translating the instrument's clear, responsive acoustic voice into a powerful array of big, versatile voicings. The bridge pickup has growl, bite, and clear midrange cut, and the neck pickup is girthy and thick while remaining articulate. The pickups clean up nicely when backing off the volume a touch, and the tone controls are equally responsive. This Orville weighs 9lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike \u0026amp; Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.The mahogany neck has a full '50s-style C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders, very representative of a ‘59 profile carve and just shy of “baseball bat\" depth, measuring .875” deep at the 1st fret and .990” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay, with fret-edge binding. The medium jumbo fretwire is nigh flawless, playing cleanly up the 24 3\/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1 11\/16” in width. The headstock sports the correct “open book” shape, with “Orville by Gibson” inlay, and the serial number inked on the back of the headstock. The Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with clean nickel plating and lightly greened keystone buttons.All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups governed by a standard LP control configuration, and the original full-size Japanese pots date to July, 1993. Solder joints are untouched, and both humbuckers retain their PAF waterslide decals on the baseplates. The neck pickup cavity reveals the long tenon neck joint, ensuring maximal connection and resonance between the body and neck. Nickel-plated hardware includes the pickup covers, ABR-1 bridge and corresponding stopbar, all of which are quite clean, and plastics comprise the amber switch tip, pickguard, and quartet of amber bonnet knobs.The gloss Lemon Burst finish highlights the tight, bookmatched flame figuring in the two-piece maple veneer which sits atop the carved maple cap. This guitar is exceptionally well-kept, with cosmetic wear on the finish limited to a few tiny dings on the lower bout on the back, and just a couple faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is immaculate.A modern FGN-brand (Fujigen-made) padded gigbag is included.","brand":"Orville by Gibson","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":44015470674176,"sku":"32544","price":2249.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0550\/4437\/4714\/products\/medium_79ac0ff8-2a4b-45f2-9b5f-703bd27e3804.jpg?v=1751523598","url":"https:\/\/mmguitarbar.com\/products\/1993-orville-by-gibson-les-paul-standard-lps-59r-lemon-burst-near-mint-w-57-classic-pafs-japan","provider":"Mike \u0026 Mike's Guitar Bar","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
