Up for sale, a 1992 Gibson Super 400 CES in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A one-owner instrument complete with the original hangtags and sales receipt, this stunningly well-kept Gibson only saw brief use in the mid-90s before being cased up and carefully stored for a quarter century.

The largest Gibson archtop ever produced with an impressive 18" lower bout width, this Super 400 CES boasts a fine grained carved and bookmatched Sitka spruce top, a highly figured carved tiger flame maple back, curly maple sides, and a five-piece flame maple neck capped with a bound ebony fingerboard. Tonally exquisite and currently strung with roundwound 12s, this Gibson offers singing, articulate tones with a breadth and depth befitting the Super's dimensions and tonewood complement. Outfitted with the original '57 Classic PAFs, there's enough top end zing and sparkling snap in the bridge position for spirited, up-tempo lead work, while the neck pickup is smooth glass, soft enough to sit perfectly in a small combo while retaining an articulation ideal for dense chording. The guitar weighs 8lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and dialed in for low action and spot-on intonation.

The five-piece neck features three pieces of intense, deep and dimensional flame maple with figuring extending the length of the profile, joined by thin walnut stringers. The neck has a slender C profile carve with round shoulders in every register and a gentle increase in depth as you travel up the fingerboard, measuring .810" deep at the 1st fret and .945" at the 12th. The ebony fingerboard boasts multi-ply binding and pearl split block inlay with flawless fretwire and easy playability up the 25 1/2" scale. The nut measures a full 1 3/4" in width, and the headstock is fitted with exceedingly rare Sealfast tuning machines with Gibson's flip-out "speed winder" metal tulip buttons.

All of the electronics function flawlessly, with untouched solder on the pickup covers and small PAF stickers intact on the baseplates. The gold plating is positively gleaming including the "Super 400" etched tailpiece, and the hardware complement is rounded out by a carved ebony bridge with compensated saddle. Plastics include a bound tortoise pickguard and a couple '50s-centric touches comprising a quartet of amber bonnet knobs and an amber switch tip. Two labels are visible through the F holes, one with the model and serial details, and the other boasting of the quality of the build. The high gloss Tobacco Sunburst nitro lacquer finish highlights the tight, straight bookmatched tiger flame which extends liberally across the carved maple back, while the maple sides have broader ripples of curly figuring. Cosmetic wear is limited to some light pick scuffing across the tortoise pickguard, and just a few tiny scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole.

The original brown Gibson USA hardshell case is included, along with the original sales receipt, warranty leaflet with matching dealer, model, and serial info, and all hangtags.
