Up for sale, a 1991 Gibson Limited Edition 30th Anniversary Les Paul SG Custom 1961 vintage reissue in near-mint condition, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. Replicating the brief period where Les Paul’s endorsement was used to market the model we now know as the SG, this exceedingly rare guitar is one of just 300 crafted to celebrate the 30th anniversary of that model’s introduction. Vintage-accurate features include a trio of 490R/T humbuckers, ABR-1 bridge and stoptail, and a notably ambered TV Yellow gloss nitro lacquer finish.
This particular Les Paul SG Custom was ordered by Gibson's Japanese distributor Yamano: Gibson's USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered among their best, featuring the highest quality woods hand-picked for Gibson's discerning Japanese audience.
The SG Custom’s mahogany construction results in plenty of natural low-mid warmth, an ideal pairing for the tailored articulation and punch of the 490R/T humbuckers. Marketed by Gibson as their "Modern Classic" humbucker, the 490s have the overarching tonal profile of a PAF with a few important tweaks on that winning formula. Made with traditional Alnico II construction, these 490 humbuckers have a slightly boosted midrange and are wax-potted, features designed to interact well in high gain scenarios, also yielding smooth, airy cleans. Lightweight at 7lbs 1oz, this 30th Anniversary 1961 Les Paul SG Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss TV Yellow nitro lacquer finish exhibits additional yellowing of the clear coat and horizontal checking. Extremely well-kept for over three decades, there are just a handful of minor dings on the body. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean save for one tiny nick behind fret 8 that is virtually undetectable to the palm while fretting.
The original Gibson USA brown tolex hardshell case is included, along with all the Gibson/Yamano hangtags.
