A stunningly clean early Fender Japan model made at the famed Fujigen factory, this guitar matches '50s spec with a gloss-finished maple fingerboard, pencil-dated neck heel, single-ply pickguard, and trio of alnico magnet single coil pickups. Sold only within Japan and rarely seen outside its country of origin, this Strat model ST54-55 has a resonant basswood body and chiming, clear quality that translates well through the stock pickups. Via the five-way selector switch, the bridge pickup is twangy and cutting without being strident, while the neck pickup has ideal fullness and bell-like top end, with every shade of single coil Strat sound covered in-between. The guitar weighs 7lbs 9oz, dialed in with low action and 10-46 strings by our techs here at Mike \u0026amp; Mike's Guitar Bar.The one-piece maple neck has a medium soft V profile that fills out with more roundess as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .860” deep at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a 7 1\/4\" radius with original slender vintage-style fretwire that retains its full factory height with nigh flawless crowns, showing just a hint of uniform wear on crowns of frets 1-2. The guitar plays easily up the 25 1\/2\" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5\/8\" in width, and the headstock reflects features from 1954 including the round string tree, spaghetti logo, and Kluson-style tuning machines. The neck heel is pencil dated just like a genuine '50s Fender, reading 89-9-1, and the factory ST54 stamps are present in the pocket, along with the “Made in Japan” text and F-prefix serial above the four-bolt neck plate.On the body, the electronics work as they should and the solder joints are untouched, with full-size pots that date to July of '89. The chrome hardware has plenty of shine with just a hint of patina, and the plastic parts are clean including the one-ply white pickguard and uniformly aged pickup covers and knobs. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish is limited to a faint spot of forearm wear in the clear coat on the lower bout on top, a tiny mark at the bass side lower bout, and a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is exceptionally clean, with just a singular minor mark behind fret 5 on the treble side of the carve, not distracting to the palm in the slightest.The original Fender gigbag is included.","brand":"Fender","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":40677072732346,"sku":"P028071","price":1399.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0550\/4437\/4714\/products\/medium_0aa748b4-448e-401f-9070-481d35c0e429.jpg?v=1751568914","url":"https:\/\/mmguitarbar.com\/products\/1989-fender-stratocaster-54-vintage-reissue-guitar-st54-55-black-japan-mij-fujigen","provider":"Mike \u0026 Mike's Guitar Bar","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
