Up for sale, a 1989 ESP Custom Shop Horizon Custom in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. ESP's Japanese Custom Shop is famous for producing unique handmade instruments for their clientele, built to nearly any specification and catering to all idiosyncratic needs. This early iteration of the Horizon Custom platform features neck-through construction, a contoured top, reverse headstock, Floyd Rose-licensed tremolo, and a 22-fret ebony fingerboard with Kramer Stagemaster-style “headstock” inlays (a logical inclusion, given ESP’s long history of crafting instruments/components for Kramer in an OEM capacity).
This Horizon Custom features maple neck-through construction with alder body wings and an ebony fingerboard, yielding a resonant acoustic platform with glassy treble detail and note attack. The Seymour Duncan SHR-1B Hot Rails single coil-sized humbucker at the neck position is potent and powerful, featuring a blade pole design, with loads of midrange harmonics and an aggressive crunch ideal for full chords and thick, fluid melodic playing. The TB-5 Custom 5 humbucker at the bridge is, according to Duncan, like “if the ‘59 Model… was twice as loud,” delivering PAF-style tailored midrange clarity, warmth and balance with great power and aggression. This Horizon Custom weighs 7lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and accurate intonation.
