Up for sale, a 1983 Gibson Les Paul Custom in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This Les Paul Custom boasts Tim Shaw PAF humbuckers, “Speed Winder” tuning machines, and a deeply aged Alpine White nitro lacquer finish.

Weighing 9lbs 12oz, this Les Paul Custom features a suite of traditional tonewoods, with a carved maple top, mahogany body, mahogany neck, and a bound ebony fingerboard. The guitar offers plenty of natural muscle, treble cut and sweet sustain, and at the heart of this Les Paul Custom are a pair of Tim Shaw PAF humbuckers. These pickups represent Gibson's first, and arguably one of their best, attempts at recreating the magic of their late '50s humbucker design. Offered for only a few short years in the '80s, the Shaws are designed with unoriented, rough cast Alnico V magnets, plastic spacers, and poly-coated wire, achieving the harmonic complexity, sensitivity to picking dynamics, and tonal clarity of the original PAF. This Les Paul Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The Alpine White gloss nitro lacquer finish is deeply yellowed with vertical lacquer checking across the body. There are a couple extra download strap button mounting holes, and similar small singular doweled mounting holes for a different tuner set installed in the guitar’s lifetime. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to buckle rash at the bass-side waist on the back, several pinhead-sized nicks on top just south of the bridge, and some minor dings on the body as a whole, largely on the back and body perimeter. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is clean and smooth with faint lacquer checking.

The original black tolex hardshell case with red plush interior is included. The case retains its original handle and functional latches, with a clean silver “Gibson” silkscreen on the lid.
