Up for sale, a 1983 Fender Precision Bass Elite II in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. This rare Elite II is from the first year of a limited production run that ran from mid-1983 to early '85. An upscale USA-made P Bass with active electronics, the bass boasts two split coil pickups that have an incredible amount of tonal range. Whether you seek more treble-focused growl or thick thump, the Elite II's intuitive control layout allows you to easily dial in the sound you need. Weighing 10lbs 6oz, the instrument has plenty of fundamental punch and sustain, yielding a balanced, smooth natural acoustic tone. Dialed in with comfortable action and accurate intonation by our techs here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this P Bass is strung with fresh 50-105 roundwound strings.
The maple neck has a very slender, fast-feeling C-shaped profile with slight shoulders and rolled fretboard edges, measuring .790" deep at the 1st fret and .900" at the 12th. On the slab rosewood fretboard, the original medium jumbo frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, only displaying a touch of wear on frets 1-4. The bass plays cleanly in every register up the 34" scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 3/4" in width. The headstock features gleaming chrome-plated tuning machines with the Fender "F" embossed above the gears. The "E3" serial number prefix on the headstock face.
The active electronics are untouched, with original solder joints and CTS pots that date to '83. Controls include two three-way mini toggles as well as dual Volume knobs and a Master Tone. The first mini toggle selects between the two pickups, and the second toggle assigns the Tone control to either pickup or both. All of the original hardware and plastics are accounted for, and given that the Elite series was exactly what it purports itself to be, all of the parts used on this instrument are essentially exclusive to this line, including F-capped knobs with ridged surrounds and a heavy duty Fender-embossed toploader bridge, complete with knurled fine tuners. The chrome plating on the hardware is positively gleaming. Plastics include the pickup covers and three-ply pickguard.
The Lake Placid Blue finish is bright and vibrant with virtually no aging of the clear coat. Cosmetic wear is limited to some faint scuffing in the clear coat on the back, a few small finish chips on the back lower bout body, and just a few additional minor marks on the body as a whole. The gloss on the neck profile is equally as clean, with just a couple small marks on the profile length.
The original rare molded brown Elite hardshell case is included. The case features gold aluminum trim, functional latches and the original handle, with one cracked plastic corner. The original polish cloth, hangtag and paperwork is included.
