Up for sale, a 1982 Gibson Les Paul XR-2 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a molded hardshell case and original warranty card. The Gibson XR instruments are notably rare Les Paul iterations, only produced in 1981-82, phased out in 1983 alongside the introduction of the Les Paul Studio. This particular model, the XR-2, features a mahogany body, flat/bound maple cap (no curvature/carve), an unbound rosewood fingerboard capping a maple neck, unique “Top Adjustable” Tune-o-Matic bridge, and a pair of mini humbuckers with a global coil tap.

Lightweight for a Les Paul at 9lbs 1oz, this XR-2 has a lively, barking acoustic response with great treble cut, providing an ideal platform for the original pair of hotly wound mini humbuckers. Punchy and sparkling, these pickups offer snarling heat at the bridge and smooth warmth at the neck. The global coil tap enables these pickups to get even brighter and more immediate, yielding an almost Fender-esque cut and twang with a bit more overall fullness. This Les Paul XR-2 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The gloss Honeyburst nitro lacquer finish highlights the wall-to-wall curly flame figuring in the maple top, framed by cream binding, and cosmetic wear is limited to mild pick scuffing on top, light buckle worming central to the back, and a few minor dings on the body as a whole. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is flawless, and there is some lacquer checking extending along the central ply of the maple on the headstock (purely cosmetic).

A molded hardshell case is included, along with the original Gibson warranty paperwork and a set of Lollar P-90 pickups that were previously installed.
