Up for sale, a 1981 Tokai Love Rock LS120 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Originally introduced in 1977, the Love Rock is Tokai’s enduringly-popular take on the LP platform. This is an upper-tiered model, featuring a bookmatched two-piece tiger maple top highlighted by a gloss nitro lacquer finish, loaded with a pair of DiMarzio PAF humbuckers.
Medium weight at 9lbs 4oz with tonewoods in-line with a ‘50s Les Paul Standard, this Love Rock features a solid mahogany body and a carved two-piece maple top (plus bookmatched tiger maple veneer), with a mahogany neck capped by a bound rosewood fretboard. The DiMarzio PAF humbuckers deliver clear treble growl, spongy bass register oomph and a textured midrange character. The neck pickup is fat and woody, and the bridge pickup has a sweet bite with focused midrange aggression. This Tokai has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

-Shape: ‘50s-style Chunky C, measuring .860” 1st fret, .970” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, 12” radius, pearloid flared trapezoid inlay
-Frets: Medium jumbo, leveled/crowned, no wear
-Scale Length: 24 3/4“
-Nut: 1 11/16”, bone

The gloss Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer finish has a very authentic ‘50s presentation with a stately, subtly diffused look highlighting flame figuring that is dimensional, varied and just prominent enough to look just like a golden age Gibson. There is light forearm wear on the bass-side lower bout edge, very limited buckle worming central to the back, and some minor dings on the body, largely relegated to the back and perimeter. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included, with the Les Paul Reborn branding that predated the switch to “Love Rock.” All but one of the latches is functional.
