The pickups are a pair of Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB humbuckers, and both are early examples wound by the celebrated Maricela Juarez, the “Queen of the SD Custom Shop.\"As Duncan's original high-output, hot-rodded humbucker, the SH-4 JB delivers full, powerful lows, crisp and detailed highs, and an upper-midrange bump that adds crunch and chunk to chords and translates to a singing, vocal-like quality for melodic playing. We’ve had this Les Paul Custom professionally setup here at Mike \u0026amp; Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.The three-piece maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders and additional heft further up the fretboard, measuring .820” deep at the 1st fret and .999” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features pearl block inlay, and the original medium jumbo frets which have been leveled and crowned, offering just a hair more meat than a “fretless wonder.” This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3\/4” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11\/16” in width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal clarity and sustain. The headstock has all the hallmarks of a Custom, with split diamond inlay, multi-ply binding, and a Les Paul Custom-embossed truss rod cover. The original set of Schaller-made, Gibson-branded flip-out \"speed winder\" tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch with clean gold plating.The electronics function as intended, with the Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB humbuckers wired to a modern harness with 500K CTS pots and premium Sprague Orange Drop tone caps. Both pickups retain the “JBJ” stickers on their baseplates, identifying them as being wound by Maricela Juarez. The gold Nashville bridge and stopbar have a light dusting of patina, most prominent on the stopbar mounting studs. Plastics comprise a modern quartet of black speed knobs and black switch tip, while the switch surround and four-ply black pickguard are original to the instrument.The gloss Ebony nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray, framed by deeply ambered multi-ply binding.
