This second iteration of the Thinline model was introduced in ‘72 and is from near the end of the model's original USA production run, featuring an ash body and one-piece maple neck, loaded with an original pair of Wide Range humbuckers.The ash body delivers ample midrange complexity and punch, complemented by the smooth, airy nature of the semi-hollow construction. This guitar boasts a pair of original Seth Lover designed Fender \"Wide Range\" humbuckers, and these pickups deliver some of the most clear, powerful, and rich tones ever heard on a Fender. As the chief architect of Gibson's PAF humbucker, Lover certainly knew how to craft a dynamic and balanced pickup, and the Wide Range design succeeds in delivering glassy, percussive cleans that have an incredible amount of warmth and nuance. Featherweight at 7lbs 1oz, this Telecaster has been professionally setup here at Mike \u0026amp; Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.The one-piece maple neck has a substantial U-shaped profile carve, with light wear through the gloss particularly on the bass-side profile edge, measuring .900” deep at the 1st fret and .980” at the 12th. The fretboard has a 7 1\/4“ radius, and the original medium frets are flawless, benefitting from a light level and crown. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1\/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1.675“ in width (just fractionally shy of 1 11\/16\"). The headstock sports a bullet truss rod nut, S8-prefix serial and block logo, and the original set of F-stamped tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should.All of the electronics function as intended, with original CTS pots that date to the 42nd week of ‘78. The Wide Range humbuckers have 1978 date stamps on their baseplates. The factory serialized sticker is present on the back of the pickguard, matching the serial on the headstock. All of the hardware has plenty of shine, including the block saddles, bridge base and pair of knurled knobs. Plastics comprise the multi-ply black pickguard and top hat switch tip, and there is some requisite pick scuffing across the strum path.The gloss Black finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray, and there is some faint speckling of the finish largely on the back and rims from prolonged contact with the case lining. The guitar exhibits one prominent line of finish checking on the back, with one finish chip on the back lower bout body edge and just a few additional minor dings and scuffs on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth.The original molded Fender USA hardshell case is included.","brand":"Fender","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":43927406215424,"sku":"S802822","price":5499.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0550\/4437\/4714\/products\/medium_3d41dbcc-7b51-42a9-a9cd-d11f1f1693c5.jpg?v=1751550842","url":"https:\/\/mmguitarbar.com\/products\/1978-fender-telecaster-thinline-vintage-guitar-black-100-original-w-wide-range-case","provider":"Mike \u0026 Mike's Guitar Bar","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
