Up for sale, a 1978 Fender Musicmaster in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and every single original hangtag. A notably complete vintage example, this Musicmaster features multiple hangtags with matching factory stamps, the original polish cloth and accompanying leaflet, vintage Fender string packet, Musicmaster owners manual and even the hangtag from Albemarle Music Store where the guitar was sold new, noting the finish as "Eboney" [sic].

This Musicmaster is a sleek, no-frills Fender with the original gray bobbin single coil located in the neck position. The pickup has a cutting tone with a clear, percussive snap and an ideal balance of warmth and classic Fender sparkle. Weighing a mere 6lbs 14oz, this Musicmaster has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The lightly figured birdseye maple neck has a chunky U-shaped profile carve with plenty of shoulder and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .890” deep at the 1st fret and .955” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features a 7 1/4” radius, pearloid dot inlay, and original slender frets which retain their full factory height, showing just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 9/16” in width. On the headstock, the notably clean Fender F tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with chrome-plated hexagonal buttons. The factory "paint stick" markings are present in the neck pocket, along with numerous factory stamps.

The electronics all function as intended, with untouched solder joints and the original gray bobbin pickup, which retains its date stamp from '78, wired to CTS pots that date to the 26th week of 1978. The chrome plating on the F neck plate and bridge base is notably clean, with just a touch of surface patina on the threaded saddles. Plastics comprise the original Strat-style knobs and three-ply black pickguard, which has requisite pick scuffing on the treble side of the strum path.

Cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish is limited to a number of minor nicks and dings along the lower bout body edge, an area of modest buckle rash on the lower bout on the back, and some light finish scuffs and nicks, also largely relegated to the back. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless and highlights birdseye figuring in the maple.

The original Fender-branded hardshell case with red plush interior is included, along with all the factory hangtags.
