Up for sale, a 1977 Roland SH-5 monophonic synthesizer in collector-grade condition. Freshly serviced by Synpase Audio Systems, this SH-5 benefits from a full recap of all electrolytics, with the stock transformer rewired to run reliably on 120v power.
This 44 key synthesizer was exceedingly advanced at the time of its release (1976), considered by many to be one of the finest analog synths ever produced. At the heart of the SH-5 are a pair of analog VCOs with triangle, ramp, square, and pulse waveforms (range: 32’ to 2’), and the SH-5 boasts two LFOs, two filters, and two VCAs.
The oscillators can be modulated by the ADSR envelope generator or by the LFOs: LFO 1 controls Rate, Ramp, and Reverse Ramp, while LFO 2 controls Rate, Delay, Triangle, Sine, and Square, and there is a Sample and Hold feature. The multi-mode filters include Hi-pass, Low-pass and Band-pass filtering with Cutoff, Resonance, Keyboard Tracking, Envelope Sensitivity (AR, ADSR, or Preset), and Modulation (ramp, sine, square, s+h) controls, and the second filter is Band-pass-only with Cutoff, Resonance, and Amount controls. The two VCAs feature Attack/Release and ADSR envelopes which can be triggered by the Sample + Hold, LFO #2 or an external audio trigger input. Extra features include an SH-type Mixer section, with five sliders (Noise, VCO 1, VCO 2, Ring Mod, and External Signal Level) which can in turn be routed through the VCA and filters, stereo output with panning controls in the VCA, white and pink noise generators, and portamento.
A true time capsule piece, this SH-5 has pristine graphics with all original knobs and slider tips present. There are just a couple minor marks on the black tolexed exterior, and this SH-5 is a studio worthy gem.
