Up for sale, a 1977 Greco Super Sound model SE-1000 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, owner’s manual, and case candy. The predecessor of the Fender Japan JV Strats, the “Super Sound” models were uppered tiered S-style Grecos produced throughout the late ‘70s at the venerable Fujigen factory, just a few short years before Fujigen Gakki signed their deal with Fender. The SE-1000 model is the absolute top end of the line, featuring a gloss Natural nitro lacquer finish, one-piece ash body, one-piece maple V neck, aluminum pickguard, genuine Schaller tuners, and a trio of Maxon-made PU-119 single coil pickups.

The tonewood complement yields a lively, articulate acoustic profile with a certain inherent midrange heft and treble cut faithfully captured by the Maxon PU-119 black bobbin single coil pickups. Maxon’s highest-tier single coil, these pickups deliver an array of classic Strat tonalities via the three-way pickup selector switch, with cutting sparkle and spank at the bridge and throaty, bell-like chime at the neck. This SE-1000 weighs 8lbs 5oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The gloss Natural nitro lacquer finish exhibits a handful of minor dings on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the perimeter and the lower bout on top. There isbuckle rash on the treble-side waist edge of the back, and some further buckle worming central to the back that is largely constrained to the anodized aluminum vibrato cavity cover. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is practically perfect save for a scant few tiny nicks that are imperceptible to the palm.

The original “Faultless” black tolex hardshell case is included, along with the original owner’s manual and case candy including the Greco-branded cleaning cloth and “ashtray” bridge cover. The original handle is present but not functional.
