This Norlin-era SG pairs a rare unbound ebony fretboard with the SG's otherwise traditional mahogany construction, yielding a more glassy top end and greater note attack and articulation.

This SG Standard has plenty of natural warmth and midrange growl on tap, and the original pair of "Tarback" humbuckers have a different magnet structure and fewer winds than the T Tops produced in the same era. Coupled with the black epoxy that gave these humbuckers their name and ensures superior feedback rejection by suppressing unwanted microphonics, the Tarbacks are a lively, sparkling pickup pair. Plugged in, the bridge pickup has a surprising bark and clarity, but with a smooth top end, while the middle and neck positions have plenty of bold sweetness and percussive cut. This SG Standard weighs 6lbs 12oz, professionally set up here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

- Wood: Mahogany (three-piece)
- Shape: Slender C, measuring .795” 1st fret, .975” 12th fret
- Fretboard: Ebony (unbound), small block inlay
- Frets: Medium jumbo, faint wear beneath the G and B strings on frets 1-2
- Scale Length: 24 3/4”
- Nut: 1 9/16”
- Tuners: Gibson-branded (Schaller-made)
- Serialization: Six-digit stamp dates to 1973

Body Specs:

- Wood: Mahogany
- Pickups: Tarback humbucker x2
- Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2, three-way pickup selector
- Harness: Untouched solder, CTS pots date to 17th week of ‘73
- Hardware: “Harmonica” bridge, stopbar
- Plastics: Four-ply black pickguard, black speed knobs

The original gloss Cherry nitro lacquer finish has aged to a rich Walnut hue, with a sliver of wear along the back lower bout body edge, shallow buckle rash, and various minor nicks and finish scratches.

A modern Gibson hardshell case is included.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0550/4437/4714/files/medium_501c9450-846b-471f-abef-633e09baf1e8.jpg?v=1791233406
https://mmguitarbar.com/products/1973-gibson-sg-standard-vintage-guitar-walnut-w-ebony-board-tarback-pickups-case-2
