{"product_id":"1970s-guyatone-ep-20-vintage-short-scale-p-bass-black-japan","title":"1970s Guyatone EP-20 Vintage Short Scale P Bass Black, Japan","description":"Up for sale, a 1970s Guyatone EP-20 bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order. An early example of Japanese craftspeople taking American designs and catering them to specific needs and price points, this unique Precision-style Guyatone bass has a compact 30.3” (770mm) scale length and an easily-navigable 1 9\/16” nut.One of few true short scale spins on the P Bass platform, the original split coil pickup offers smooth thump, top end sweetness, and present cut. The pickup has plenty of foundational breadth, particularly with the Tone knob rolled off, and a punchy growl can be achieved, accentuated by a set of 45-100 roundwound strings. This EP-20 weighs 8lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike \u0026amp; Mike’s Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and spot-on intonation.The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges and moderate shoulder at the nut, gaining appreciably more heft and roundness further up the fretboard, measuring .860” deep at the 1st fret and 1.020” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard is a notably thick cut, with a 9 1\/2“ radius, and the medium jumbo fretwire is practically perfect. This bass plays cleanly up the 30.3” (770mm) scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 9\/16” in width. The headstock has a ‘70s-style Guyatone script logo and round string tree, and the nickel-plated clover button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.All of the electronics function as intended; the split coil pickup is wired to the stock harness with full-size Japanese pots, governed by Master Volume and Tone controls. The chrome-plated bridge base and barrel saddles are notably clean, as are the replacement pair of black flat-topped knurled knobs. Plastics comprise the thumb rest and the three-ply white pickguard.The gloss Black finish is lightly applied, and the subtle texture of the wood peeks through, with a few areas of light checking. Cosmetic wear is limited to a handful of nicks on the back and body perimeter, a small area of buckle rash at the belly contour, and some faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss.A padded gigbag is included.","brand":"Guyatone","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":43791839396096,"sku":"ISI18631","price":799.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0550\/4437\/4714\/products\/medium_5aae5583-293b-4693-a60e-0f9a4087ad90.jpg?v=1751545724","url":"https:\/\/mmguitarbar.com\/products\/1970s-guyatone-ep-20-vintage-short-scale-p-bass-black-japan","provider":"Mike \u0026 Mike's Guitar Bar","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
