Up for sale, a 1970 Fender Competition Mustang Bass in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Featuring a Competition Red finish, this particular color is essentially Candy Apple Red with a (uniformly yellowed) Olympic White racing stripe.
The bass has a rich, round acoustic voice with smooth sustain and a touch of growl in the top end. There's a certain pluck and punch unique to this bass that's particularly appealing and sits well in a mix, filling out the low end nicely. Offering more upper midrange focus than a P, this Mustang Bass has a surprising amount of oomph and an overall smoothness accentuated by the set of 45-105 flatwound strings. Weighing 7lbs 11oz, this Mustang Bass has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and accurate intonation.

The original pickguard, included in the case, shows signs of off-gassing from the pearloid material, which resulted in a finish reaction beneath the guard and a “drip” in the gloss extending beneath a corner of the control plate towards the bridge. The Competition Red finish has subtle finish checking, with some buckle rash and cable worming across the back, a handful of chips along the lower bout perimeter, and some minor nicks and scuffs on the body as a whole. The neck profile has a worn-in, easy-playing feel, with a few shallow dings along the shoulders that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.
The original gray speckled hardshell case is included, along with the original pickguard. The central latch is non-functional.
