Up for sale, a 1969 UMI Wa pedal in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Founded by New York-based engineer Richard Soloway in 1967, United Musical Industries (UMI) began as an amp manufacturer before quickly moving into the emerging pedal market: Soloway’s first two pedals were a fuzz, designed for/in collaboration with an up-and-coming Jimi Hendrix, and this “Wa” wah-wah, which was purportedly used extensively by Eric Clapton during his time with Cream.
This UMI Wa is unique for combining its reverse sweep (inverted from a standard wah pedal), with the treble opened up when the pedal is cocked back to the heel instead of depressed at the toe. Tonally, this UMI is vocal and dynamic, with a pronounced midrange hump and minimal resistance at the treadle for a very smooth experience, functioning as a volume pedal when the wah is disengaged. The original CTS pot dates to the 18th week of 1969.
This UMI Wa is in great shape, with the only wear of note being mild scuffing across the red screenprinted “wa pedal” graphic. The chrome-plating, rubber foot pad, and enclosure are all very clean.
