1969 Fender Jazz Bass Vintage Electric Bass Guitar Olympic White w/ Case

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1969 Fender Jazz Bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This Jazz Bass features a body-only nitro lacquer refinish and light aging in Fender's perennially popular custom color, Olympic White, courtesy of Riggio Custom Guitars. This bass retains all original hardware and plastics, loaded with a pair of vintage gray bobbin pickups.

The era-correct gray bobbin pickups deliver a round, articulate sound accentuating the fundamental warmth of a set of 50-110 D'addario Chromes flatwound strings. The bass has plenty of upper midrange presence and burp, with a thick, balanced thump when rolling the Tone knob back to taste. The bass weighs 9lbs 5oz,"fully clothed" with the chrome ashtray covers, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium depth U-shaped neck profile carve bordering on the chunkier side of things, with round shoulders in every register, measuring .855" deep at the 1st fret and .980" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid block inlay, refretted with jumbo fretwire that is wide and flat, showing no wear. The neck is straight and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut measures 1 1/2" in width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The lacquer on the headstock face is deeply ambered, and there are a couple small additional filled holes between the E and A tuner posts, ostensibly for an additional string retainer of some sort. The original clover button tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch reliably. The date on the neck heel has faded completely, and the original Sunburst finish is still intact in the neck pocket.

The electronics function flawlessly and the gray bobbin pickups, while genuine vintage Fender parts and correct for the year of production, didn't come with this particular Jazz Bass from the factory. Both pickups have their original cloth-covered leads, and the bridge pickup retains its original windings, while the neck pickup is freshly rewound to vintage spec. The harness is completely original, with CTS pots which date to the 42nd week of '66. As Fender purchased a huge lot of pots in '66, it's customary to see 1966 date codes extend on these components on instruments produced through the end of the decade. The hardware includes the original control plate, bridge with barrel saddles, "ashtray" bridge and pickup covers, all of which have bright chrome plating. The serialized F neck plate is also intact, showing uniform surface patina. Stock plastics include the trio of knobs, a red "meatball" tortoise pickguard, and finger rest.

The Olympic White gloss nitro lacquer finish on the alder body was recently applied by Riggio Custom Guitars, with no wear beyond very restrained aging to better match the original neck finish. There is tight horizontal lacquer checking on the body, with just a few simulated marks of wear. The original gloss on the neck profile shows natural wear through the finish down to the smooth, bare maple behind frets 1-9.

A hardshell case is included.
