Up for sale, a 1968 Fender Bandmaster Reverb vintage tube amp head in excellent condition, freshly serviced and complete with two-button footswitch. An early example of the Bandmaster Reverb, this head features the "Drip Edge" aluminum trim only used from 1968-69.
Essentially providing the same features as its reverb-less predecessor, the Bandmaster Reverb offers 40 watts of tube power via a pair of 6L6 power tubes. The amp excels at delivering big, bold clean tones and pushes into sweet tube overdrive after around 5 on the volume dial. The reverb is lush and splashy, and the tremolo has a strong chop.
The circuit retains all of the stock Schumacher transformers (Fender's primary transformer supplier in this era), all of which have 1968 source date codes. The power supply has been professionally recapped with Sprague Atoms, and the preamp has new smaller electrolytics and a few modern signal caps as well (Sprague Orange Drops). The pots are a combination of vintage and modern components, with visible date codes on the original CTS pots from the 15th and 27th weeks of '68. There are a couple small metal plugs in the back of the chassis from previously removed mods, and a three-prong power cable has been installed. Tubes include a matched pair of Groove Tubes 6L6s, a vintage RCA 5U4 rectifier, and a combination of vintage and modern valves in the preamp.
The tube chart is intact inside the cabinet, and the head retains its original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with turquoise stripe. The logo on the face of the amp is a modern replacement, while the hardware is otherwise original including the handle caps, corners and chassis straps. The faceplate presents well, and all of the original witch hat knobs are present.
A modern two-button footswitch to engage the Reverb and Tremolo effects is included.
