1964 Gibson B-25N Vintage X-Braced Acoustic Guitar, Collector Grade w/ Case & Hangtags, LG-3

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1964 Gibson B-25N, time capsule clean and complete with the original hangtag, factory paperwork, and a modern hardshell case. The successor of the LG-3 (and by association the same size but lesser priced LG-2), the B-25N features a slope shoulder body design with a 14 1/4" lower bout width and X braced construction. Short of purchasing a J-45 and heading into upscale dreadnought territory, the B-25N was the highest grade Gibson money could buy in '64, and the solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides and one-piece mahogany neck add up to a guitar that is very resonant, soulful, and easy to play.

A modestly-sized cannon with excellent projection, this B-25 has a mellow, woody character when strummed lightly, offering more sparkle and cut when you dig in with a flatpick. Trebles are sweet and punchy, the midrange is complex, and the bass response has a certain sweetness and presence without being boomy or overt. Weighing 4lbs 2oz, this Gibson has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-53 strings and comfortable action.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with good shoulder in every register and a gentle increase in roundness and overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard has pearl dot inlay, and the original medium jumbo frets are practically perfect with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns. The neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod, playing cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale. The original nylon nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the silkscreen "Gibson" logo is clean as can be, and the original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well with gleaming plating and original white buttons.

Instrumental to the tone of this particular B-25N, this guitar boasts an upgraded rosewood bridge fitted with a carved bone saddle. This bridge and saddle combination is a tonal cornerstone of the B-25N, with more top end clarity, resonance, and projection than the original plastic bolt-on bridge design. The bridge sits flush with the top, and the solid, X braced spruce top sits quite flat with minimal deflection behind the bridge. Visible through the soundhole, the B-25N factory stamp is extremely bold on the back center seam. The tortoise pickguard sits perfectly flat, well secured on all edges and showing zero pull on the top

The nitro lacquer gloss finish is 100% original, with sparingly little ambering on the Natural top and a very saturated, unfaded shade of Cherry on the back and sides. Truly as clean as they come, cosmetic wear is limited to a few faint pick marks on the guard, and a few isolated spots of light lacquer checking on top.

The original hangtag and factory paperwork is included, along with a modern premium black tolex hardshell case.
