Produced in the first quarter of '64, this guitar has all the essential Pre-CBS Jaguar features, with a mint green nitrate pickguard, Brazilian rosewood fretboard with clay dot inlay, hand-wound black bobbin pickups, and Kluson single line tuners.\n\nThis Jaguar has the kind of natural playwear and patina one expects with a guitar that can really deliver the goods, and this instrument surely doesn't disappoint. Threading the needle for both the desires of players and serious collectors alike, it's quite rare to find a Pre-CBS Fender with this degree of vital playwear as original as this example. Weighing 8lbs 7oz, the guitar has a particularly immediate and powerful acoustic response with both breadth and snap.\n\nThis articulate natural response of the guitar translates very well through the original staggered pole black bobbin single coil pair. The pickups easily deliver the raw twang, chime, and cut for which these coils are known, and in design and output they're virtually identical to a Strat pickup, albeit with the metal \"claw\" surrounds that both focus the magnetic field of the pickups and reduce unwanted hum. The myriad switching options and original 1Meg potentiometers cover the traditional Fender single coil territory, yet with the incredible cutting top end that only comes with a Jag. In the Lead Circuit (hexagonal control plate), the \"strangle\" switch cuts low end and can make for great tic-tac tones, especially with flatwounds. The Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower horn introduces a set of darker tonalities exclusive to the neck pickup, with a richness and low end girth that fills things out nicely and is great for driving a tube amp or your favorite fuzz box. We've professionally setup this Jaguar here at Mike \u0026amp; Mike's Guitar Bar (where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments) with 11-50 roundwound strings, optimal action, and spot-on intonation.\n\nStill very reminiscent of Fender’s profile carves from ’63, the maple neck has a medium C shape at the nut with appreciably more heft and particularly round shoulders in every register, measuring .850\" deep at the 1st fret, and 1.005\" at the 12th. The profile has lightly rolled fretboard edges, and the nitro lacquer is worn to the smooth bare maple along the profile length from natural palm wear. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is a dark, tight-grained cut with clay dot inlay and a professional refret. The new slender 6230-size vintage-spec slender frets are flawless, while there is light wear into the rosewood itself on the treble side of the board from frets 1-4 which doesn't affect playability in the slightest. The nut has been upgraded with a hand-carved piece of bone measuring 1 5\/8\" in width, and the matching Candy Apple Red headstock features the original \"Fender Jaguar\" decal. The original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines are present too with heavy patina, still functioning as intended. On the neck heel, the January, 1964 date stamp is intact, with a flush truss rod nut that has needed sparingly little adjustment in the last half century.\n\nOn the body, all of the electronics work as they should and are 100% original, with original windings on both black bobbin pickups, untouched solder joints, and Stackpole pots that date to the 8th week of '64. All of the original chrome control plates are intact with surprisingly clean plating, and the original bridge and vibrato are intact too. One of the best vibrato units ever designed, this Jaguar can execute everything from very subtle warbles and shimmies to deeper expressive dives that jump back to the original pitch with ease. The original flip-up string mute has been fitted with a new strip of foam, engaging as it should for staccato tic-tac tones. The original mint green pickguard is the most heavily aged original mint guard we've ever encountered on a Pre-CBS Fender, still lining up with all original screw holes and exhibiting minimal shrinkage save for a one corner which is present yet split from the body of the guard surrounding the bass-side bridge thimble. The Candy Apple Red nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, very saturated and lovingly worn, exhibiting heavy buckle rash, tight horizontal lacquer checking, various nicks and dings, and forearm wear exposing the silver primer coat.\n\nThe original black tolex hardshell case is included.","brand":"Fender","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":39900206858426,"sku":"L36613","price":8999.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0550\/4437\/4714\/products\/medium_85639eca-b22f-4d03-9bea-3127e5b264f2.jpg?v=1751562548","url":"https:\/\/mmguitarbar.com\/products\/1964-fender-jaguar-vintage-pre-cbs-offset-electric-guitar-candy-apple-red-w-case","provider":"Mike \u0026 Mike's Guitar Bar","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
